Rachel is a Partner in the Firm’s Korea Practice.
Rachel is an experienced professional in corporate general matters and finance for vessels and aircraft, and cross-border investment. She has advised in financial matters not only for major South Korean maritime companies and aviation companies but also for international companies from Japan, Switzerland, USA, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Rachel has handled asset finance matters across a diverse range of transportation of vessels and aircraft. She has instructed more than 50 cases for 100 vessels including wet tankers, dry bulk carriers, containers and LNG carriers in various financial structures such as ship mortgage, sale and lease back, and asset-backed securities.
After her licence was granted to serve as a public accountant in the USA, Rachel was in charge of foreign investment and trade as an advisory at a major South Korean commercial bank. She handled foreign exchange matters for trade business and also reviewed the financial status of a number of company credit applicants.
While serving as a practitioner in Korea, she was the head of the international transaction team in a Korean law firm. Her area of practice is banking, finance, foreign direct investment, labour, advertising, anti-trust, foreign exchange regulations, real estate, insurance, and intellectual property. She as acted for major electronic device manufacturing company, heath care company and insurance company in Korea, Korean local government, aviation company, international health care companies, and Chinese chemical company. For her international clients, she has also been involved in translating and verifying commercial documents written in English to Korean, to be submitted to notary public’s office and courts.
She also has experience in international arbitration and mediation. She represented a Chinese chemical company under the KCAB Rules governed by Korean law against Korean construction company concerning a technology transfer agreement. She managed and reviewed a number of international arbitration and mediation cases at Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. She also completed Cross-border Mediation Course provided by Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy.
Rachel graduated from Singapore Management University and Indiana University Maurer School of Law and obtained Master of Laws degrees. She is a member of the Korean Bar Association, the Seoul Bar Association, the Korean Intellectual Property Office, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
- Acted as a legal advisor for Singapore branches of Korean government organisations, conglomerates, and banks.
- Represented a Chinese chemical company under the KCAB Rules governed by Korean law against a Korean construction company concerning a technology transfer agreement.
- Represented a South Korean local government in number of real estate disputes.
- Represented a South Korean government owned housing company in an anti-trust case against major South Korean elevator manufacturing companies.
- Instructed more than 50 cases of ship finance between a major South Korean maritime company and international financial institutions in various strictures such as ship mortgage, sale and lease-back, asset-backed securities for diverse types of vessels including wet tankers, dry bulk carriers, containers and LNG carriers.
- Acted for a Korean aviation company in aircraft purchase from a US aviation company.
- Acted for a US international health care company in incorporation of branch in Korea and Korean network marketing law and advertisement law issues.
- Acted for a major South Korean electronic device manufacturing company in M&A procedure against a German international electronic device manufacturing company from negotiation to closing of the contract.
- Acted for foreign companies from the US, Hong Kong, Switzerland and etc. in inward foreign direct investment procedures to Korea, incorporation of companies in Korea and setup of employment rule under Korean labour law.
- In 2021, Rachel was awarded “Outstanding Lawyer of 2021” by Korea Bar Association for her dedication as being a bridge in the legal area between Korea and Singapore.
